Google to launch operating system

Chrome OSGoogle is developing an operating system (OS) for personal computers, in a direct challenge to market leader Microsoft and its Windows system.

Google are jumping into Operating System race to challege which has 90% stake in the market.  Google Chrome OS will be aimed initially at small, low-cost netbooks, but will enetually be used on PCs as well.

Google said notebook with Chrome OS could be on sale by the middle of 2010.

“Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS,” Comment from Google Blog.

The news comes just months before Microsoft launches the latest version of its operating system, called Windows 7.

I think it will create some compition in the Operating System market as Microsoft is the biggest leader. In compitition customers always in positive side. This is the first time we have had a truly competitive OS on the market in years. This is potentially disruptive and is the first real attempt by anyone to go after Microsoft.

good that Google is keeping this OS as open source. This will be a real nail in Microsoft’s business as they chare about 100-200$ for their Windows operating system.

Is there anything Google can’t do? This would be amazing especially if they have the whole OS as an open source system. Watch out Microsoft.

If new Google operating system will support applications which work on Microsoft Windows it will be good comentition. Without everyday applications whic people use no one new OS will not succes. People need applications not OS, if there is not applications to get work done new Google OS will not be so popular. We need to wait and see what will happened. But it’s not goot for us to have only few big IT companies which have almost 90% percent of market.

I have been waiting for someone to come and compete with Microsoft! It should be interesting to see what happens with the initial numbers. I’ll give it a shot because I prefer google over Microsoft any day.

This is an interesting news, if the Google OS would be as user-friendly and efficient as Google Chrome, then it will a good chance on the market.  Microsoft should be threatened by this news.

Definitely worth monitoring. Let’s see how Microsoft reacts to this. Windows 7 isn’t doing too well at the moment.

Really so what’s next? Spaceship? Come on Google get real, monopoly in technology can’t be successful. It’s as logical as your Googlebot and as rational as the iPod.

This Google Operating system could be the beginning of something very huge. I just bought the Verizon Droid which has the Google Android OS…Androis is still very new (2.0 version) but it’s coming along. Give Android another year and I think that I will begin the have the functionality of the Iphone. I’m sure Google is aiming for the netbook negment initally with their Google Chrome OS so they can have realitively small market segment with which to perfect their OS. After 2-4 years of this they will surely go after Laptops and eventually desktops. Who knows? I ten years many of us could by using Google Chrome OS or products simular.

I don’t think Google will make it a sucess with their OS. Win 7 is already ahead in this race.  Perhaps Google should look forward for some more innovative ideas.
